Arnstein Jewish Community Center, 6800 Deane Hill Dr, Knoxville, TN 37919 – November 6th, 5 to 8pm

Drawing workshop – The first program was a brainstorm session where participants learned sketching techniques to draw traditional Jewish plants and symbols. Drawing lessons included blind contouring and using a feely box to explore shape and texture. Participants also helped salvage rocks to be reinstalled in the garden next spring.

Artists, Emily and J Taylor, will use these drawings to inform the design of a temporary sculpture they will exhibit on the garden platform. These drawings will also be exhibited in the AJCC gallery.

project drawings to be added soon

Planting Workshop – Over 60 community members gathered to plant, dig, and grow together — putting down more than 70 plants and transforming the site with mulch, gravel, and a whole lot of heart. Featuring a plant swap hosted by Knoxville–Oak Ridge Hadassah, Jewish heritage plant tastings, and poppy seed bagels from Potchke Bagel. This is community-built art in action.
